The Riverwalk in Downtown Estes Park

The Riverwalk is a 1 mile section trail that allows you to stroll along the banks of the Big Thompson River as it wanders along the back side of the shops and restaurants.

When you leave the Visitor’s Center on Highway 34 to walk into town, there is a tunnel that you have to walk through to get under Highway 36. In this tunnel are hundreds of brightly colored, hand-painted tiles all made into a mural. The title of this display of artwork is called “Community Unity” and was put up in 2005-2006. Each of these tiles was painted by community members of Estes Park 9individuals and students from Eagle Rock School with assistance from many PeaceJam students. (PeaceJam is a foundation dedicated to creating a new generation of young leaders committed to positive change in themselves, their communities and the world through the inspiration of Nobel Peace Laureates). These individual tiles were made through generous contributions from local clubs and individuals who helped to sponsor the project. Their goal is to connect people from different generations and diverse walks of life through art and also to beautify a public space with art as the individuals get to know each other.

Downtown Estes Park along Elkhorn Avenue at first glance is full of tourist shops, galleries and restaurants.  Yet right out the backdoor of the shops is a surprise!  Estes Park’s Riverwalk –  a wonderful park that meanders along the riverbanks all the way through town.

Filled with intimate spots, shade, sculpture – it’s an inviting place to explore.  Enjoy outdoor dining & coffee on the patio, places for kids to dip a finger in the cold mountain water, a playground, benches to sit and people watch, and easy strolling through the Village.
